SEPTEMBER! SEPTEMBER! SEPTEMBER! (Part I of II)

September 2012 has long appeared equal parts exciting and intimidating on our calendars. A month-long Monday night residency at the Toff, culminating in a week long season of our most ambitious show yet. Daunting? TICK. Hard work? Double tick. Fucking amazing? A million ticks running off the page in all directions!!!

So first things first: the residency. The Toff is a beautiful venue with arguably the best sound for a mid-sized room in Melbourne. We first played there with the beautiful Emma Dean in 2010 and have longed to return ever since. So when they approached us for this residency we were beyond thrilled. Monday nights is a new challenge for us. You hear and think conflicting things: it’s hospitality workers night off so it will rock, it’s Monday and everyone is still recovering so it won’t rock quite so hard, it’s our first gigs in 5 months so it must rock the hardest etc etc.

We have done the first two shows. They have been intimate and beautiful. So gorgeous to see so many familiar faces – it has been like a big family reunion – only more drunk and less awkward. Caity Fowler and William Cooper both shone brightly as our supports. We fucking love them.

This is Caity:

And this is Will:

They were both STUNNING as solo performers. Go listen to/buy William’s music HERE and check out Caity’s band Playwrite HERE.

We have had the audience waltzing by themselves to stave away the loneliness, we have recalled our slow-minor-key-english-translation version of the Macarena and we have played our old “classics”.

The way we have structured this residency, our set lists and the support acts has been about GROWTH and momentum. And to badly mis-quote ourselves, “we’ve got to keep the momentum rolling along, so that no one can stop us…”. So from this week’s show we are upping the anti…

Shit is gonna get REALLY REAL from tomorrow’s show.William Cooper is back, this time as part of the gorgeous Dearly Wish, who you may remember from our fundraiser in January. We also have our awesome exciting beautiful band back – (and it’s sounding KILLER btw) and our new FUCKING CHOIR – named, by popular vote on Facebook, The Rebuttals:

Get tix HERE and RSVP HERE to tomorrow’s show!

And then NEXT Monday, we will be joined by Caity’s phenomenal band Playwrite – this will be our final show of the residency and it’s just going to be a huge fucking party. So book your tix HERE and RSVP HERE and BRING ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND CRANCE.

Apart from some serious crance-action, though, what we urgently need is YOUR HELP. We need you to invite your friends to these shows, tweet and Facebook them, shout from rooftops, tell strangers on trams. We need to show the fine people of Melbourne that Monday truly is the new Friday. We can’t over stress how important this is – we love making this music and shaping these evenings - but without a large audience, we cannot survive.

There is a second part to this blog coming, which is all about the fringe festival show, Under The Rainbow, Spectacular Spectacular! But for now, think of the first half of our residency as the sepia part of the Wizard If Oz, classic, beautiful and dreamy, but laddies and gentlewomen, with your help, we are about to burst into fucking technicolor.
